(DALLAS) – SYNERGEN Health, a pioneer of comprehensive healthcare financial solutions based in Dallas, has aligned with the Starkey Hearing Foundation, a global non-profit organization, and the Sri Lanka Army to coordinate a massive humanitarian exercise to provide hearing aids to Sri Lanka.
“SYNERGEN joined forces with the Starkey Hearing Foundation to bring help to a much needed, and often overlooked, part of the world,” said Mel Gunawardena, Managing Partner of SYNERGEN Health. “After working with Starkey Hearing Technologies over the past three years to improve their revenue cycle management and analytics, we knew they would be the ideal partner to support our mission and help Sri Lankan citizens hear again.”
The program selected and screened more than 2,000 patients from cities across the country. Participating patients included those suffering from hearing loss due to deafening explosions and trauma caused by the nation’s recent civil war, old age, illness and those born hearing impaired. Eighty-five percent of participants were from the northern and eastern areas where civilians were impacted most by civil war, while the rest were military personnel and their family members.
Beneficiaries were transported to Colombo and fitted with customized hearing aids under the guidance of Starkey Founder Bill Austin, his wife Tani, Audiologists and more than 60 SYNERGEN volunteers, as well as distinguished guests and celebrities. They were accompanied by a medical team dispatched by the Directorate of Army Medical Services and VisionCare , who will provide ongoing aftercare services.
